Samsung Presents 2006 Procurement Plans for Taiwan

Samsung recently announced its 2006 plans for component procurement from Taiwanese makers. The Korean company expects to procure a total of US$2.5 billion worth of components from Taiwanese companies, up 25% from the 2004 total. LCD panel procurements are expected to reach about US$1 billion, for approximately a 40% share of the total. LCD panels will cover all sizes, while the company will mainly buy its medium- and small-sized panels from Wintek. IC components are expected to make up about 30% of the total, with Samsung's closest partners in this area being Elite, MStar, and Richtek. Samsung will also increase procurement of LED backlight modules.
